Hi everyone, my brand new pair 8010As has been producing noise since I moved.
The building is 200yrs old and the speakers have no ground pin. Balanced connections with working pro cables and interface. 
Noise is measured at 20cm distance. The difference in my not very quiet room is about +7dB C as you can see in the graph lol.
Add roughly 6dB when the other speaker is on. Still noticeable way more than 1 meter when trimmed with the speakers' pad that offers -10dB. ISS switch not helping.

Not hum, not hiss and no ground loops. Just darker white noise same amplitude over the time.
What can we do? I don't think that is normal behaviour.

The specified background noise level for the 8010A is below or equal to 5dB, A-weighted, measured at 1 meter distance. This is with the speaker powered ON, without any input signal cable connected. The objective level of this, is that audible or not, depends very heavily on the room and the noise level in the room, together with the listening distance.

Is the noise level the same with the input cable connected and not connected?

Thank you Markus for your answer.
So, if there is no cable connected or the interface is turned OFF I can barely hear the noise you're describing just when I'm very close, and that's fine.
But If the cables are connected to the usb-powered interface (built-in Maschine MK3) I can perfectly hear the "added" noise I'm talking about.
Cannot be the interface because I got it tested by my reseller. Nor the cables' fault... I've tried different power sockets, same.

Hi Andrea,

Monitors are designed to play sounds coming from the sound source/cables, and therefore I would still suspect the sound source/cables.

Could you try the monitors with different sound source to compare the noise level?  Also, does the noise decrease when you lower the volume from the sound source?

If you still suspect there to be something wrong in the monitors, please let us know where you are from and I can provide you contact details of your nearest authorized service so you can have them checked.

The percieved noise does not change if I turn the interface's volume knob. I've tried 3 different balanced cable pairs.
At the moment i can't try another interface. I'll let you know the result as soon as possible.

Hi folks!

I am experiencing the same problem. And I am also using Maschine MK3 as my interface.

Speakers ON. Cables NOT connected => NO noise.

Speakers ON, Cables connected. Interface OFF => NO noise.

Speakers ON, Cables connected. Interface ON => noise

Changing the volume on the interface doesn't affect the volume of the noise be generated.

I am experiencing exactly the same issue with Zoom f8n field recorder / audio interface.
The problem is exactly as described above.

I have managed to have a decent result (though still hearing noise....) setting the F8n output level from "Line" (+4dBu) to “normal” (-10dBV)  and moved the sensitivity switch on the rear of the speaker to -10 dB

I am using original Zoom balanced "mini XLR" to "XLR" balanced TXF-8 cables.

Do you have more info about this?

Hi everyone, I just got my brand new pair 8010 and I got same problem , the noise is coming out when the speaker turn on

Hi, I'm not sure if there was any progress on the 8010a noise issue. I have this problem, too. It's an audible hiss when the (brand new) speakers are connected to my Scarlett 18i8 and iMac Pro. Thinking it might be the interface, I've been through the issue with Focusrite who believe it's the speakers which are producing a constant hiss from their tweeters (inherent in active monitors?). I've also checked the cables and they're fine.

The set-up that creates the problem is exactly as Henric described:

  • Speakers ON. Cables NOT connected > NO noise.
  • Speakers ON, Cables connected. Interface OFF > NO noise.
  • Speakers ON, Cables connected. Interface ON > White Noise (hiss)
  • Changing the volume on the interface doesn't affect the volume of the noise be generated.

The noise is low level, but very definite and really noticeable when the speakers power down - aaah, silence!

Anyway, I hope that helps anyone having the same problem.

I solved the problem on same way. And You have to setting up the subwoofer (if you have Genelec 7040a) too, at the "Roll Off" section.
