Listening level matching between different kinds of Genelec monitors

Hello,

Firstly, happy new year for Genelec team and lovers.

I think my question has been already asked but I didn't find the proper post.

So, my question is simple.

I use room calibrated 2x8330+7350. I appreciate a lot the room calibration which push these monitors at a level difficult to reach with other designs.

Without room calibration :

with :

I want in a first step to buy a monitor as center channel. I think to choose a 8340 model (not completely sure until now) to buy after 2 other 8340 to get a 5.1 system (the 8330 monitors would become the rear speakers).

The power and efficiency of 8330 et 8340 are not the same. How proceed to match the listening level (SPL) between one center 8340 et two left and right 8330 ?

Many thanks.

Sorry for late reply!

You can sure use 8340A speakers in front, and 8330A in the rear. GLM calibration will calculate SPL and delays and adjust them automatically. You can also use 8340A in center with the 8330A's until you get your setup finalized.

Many thanks for the answer.

Finally, I bought two 8340 monitors as L and R speakers and use for the moment a 8330 speaker as center channel speaker.

GLM calibration is an incredible and marvellous tool. The neutrality supplied by calibration is something I never experienced in a small to medium room. It's usefull as much for the sound engineer as for the listener !

The 8340 are even better than the 8330 keeping their qualities but adding more headroom (and more spl if needed), a larger soundstage, a touch of easyness and a better accuracy in the lower mid.
