from 8050 to 8351 ???

Hello Guys

I am a long time genelec user, started with 8040 10 years ago then upgraded to 8050 7 years ago. Now I believe its time to move to a 3 way design, I used another brand for a year in another studio and i was happy with the 3 way design, so i think i want to upgrade now to a 3 way design, and i would love to stay with genelec as i am used to its sound and i know they cannot go wrong.
Is a move from 8050 to an 8351 considered like a real major upgrade? what should i expect sound wise, how much break time, should I expect better mixes clearer and better for instance? Is it advisable such a move? please not that i have a dangerous music d-box as monitor controller and an antelope orion 32HD as my main converter / interface.

Thanks

It will be a massive upgrade.

The 2 main benefits you will get over your 8050's are first and foremost GLM and being able to tune the speaker to your envirnoment, this will be the biggest jump in terms of quality.

In regards to lets say an 8350, the SAM version of your 8050 and the 8351, the benefits will be in the way the 3 way system presents the music, the point source benefits of the 8351 are stunning, if you look back through my posts, you wll see i say the 8351 is the best speaker Genelec have ever built... it really is that good.

The bass extension is very similar between the 8350 and 8351, so you wont make huge strides there, in most rooms i calibrate, we are seeing LF extension down to the 25-28Hz region. The SAM monitors  have AES/EBU and analog inputs, so you have the option of using either, and GLM will provide many benefits when it comes to getting the most out of your space... go organise a demo.

Cheers
