Is the 8331 for me?

Soliciting your opinion…

My main home stereo is 8341 x 2 + 7360 x 2 to which I listen at a 2.7 meters distance.

I’m about to invent in a second system for my desktop area. The room is spacious (14m x 7m), but the listening distance is only 1m +/-. The monitors will be mounted with 8000-402 on a wall to my left and on a pillar on my right.

I don’t listen to high SPL. I can take 80db for a few minutes; even 75db becomes a tad too after an hour (I work on other projects to the sound of music, or watch clips on my computer).

My initial thought was that the 8341 would be an overkill and a pair of 8331 + 8350 was the way to go. Powerful, super clean and compact. But maybe the 8331 is actually too small? Maybe it’ll sound a bit thin, and I’ll miss the soundfield of a larger monitor?

Should I bump to the 8431 or stick my original plan?

Thanks!

P.S.: auditioning the monitors either in a show room or in my space is not an option.

what about 1037/1237 for the big room?

look for used ones maybe.

at larger distances these will easily blow away 8331 and even 8351. Is a totally different game.

coaxial is awesome at short distances, if you have the space, weight and driver size win.

He wrote that even he has a big room listening distance is only 1m.

I am not sure how a small loudspeakers behave in a large room at short distance. I would guess that it should be fine. You probably will lose a little bit of the low end. What would worry me more would be your asymmetric positioning of the left and right speaker this can ruin stereo imaging completely.

Thank you all for the feedback. I'm all the wiser now.

I bet those midfielders are amazing, but way too much for my application. My 8431 x 2, with a 7360 underneath each monitor, are just prefect in a 2.7-meter triangle setup. I wouldn’t want anything more powerful, nor would my neighbors J…I live in a secluded house with windows wide open 24/7, with the two neighbors 300 meter and 600 meter off respectively. The poor folks beg me to cut it down when I crank up the volume.

I auditioned the 8431 with one subwoofer in my workstation areas for the two weeks.  Supreme as they were, a 1-meter triangle was too tight for my liking. I’d rather have a wider sound field.

Long story short, the 8331 + 7350 are crossing oceans and mountains one their way from Finland.
