8020D Volume Control

I recently bought a pair of 8020DMP to be largely used as speakers at home for llistening to Vinyl. I connected the Soeaker (XLR) to Clearaudio nano Phono preamp through (RCA). There is no volume control on the monitors and the volume control on the nano phono preamp is rigid delivering no sensitivity for managing monitor output. Does the monitor sensitivity has to do any thing with this, it’s factiry settings at the backside  point at -6 at one end and between +2 and +4 on the other end. Not sure which exactly it points to. Do I need to buy a 9030A volume control?

Any suggestions please....
