bypass converters 7360A / 8351A

Hi Genelec.

Can I bypass the AD-DA converters inside 7360A / 8351A?

I think my DAC Analog output will go thru a AD-DA conversion when it enters 7360A (for GLM/SAM).

But if I press bypass in GLM software, is my DAC's analog signal sent to 7360A, and then 8351A without DSP/conversion?

kind regards,

ian

Hi guys,

What I am trying to do: Bypass GLM, and any A/D/A conversion.

Setup: 7360A + 8351A (x2).

Why: I am using my own DAC, and I don't need GLM room correction.

My DAC: has 3 outputs, L / R / Sub. The DAC will handle the cross-over.

Set-up now: Out of DAC L into Analog 1, R into Analog 2, Sub into LFE In (all on 7360A). I use the GLM software for volume control (I have the USB GLM kit + hardware volume control knob).

(1) How can I be sure that GLM filters + the ADA converters in 7360A / 8351A + the 7360A sub crossover filter is not active?

(2) Will it be better if I only use the LFE In on 7360A (to feed sub), and for 8351A - I go straight from DAC L/R into 8351A? Right now, the DAC L/R signal goes into 7360A (analog in 1/2), and then is passed onto 8351A.

kind regards,

ian

Hi Ian,

Sorry for late reply. It is not possible to bypass A/D/A conversion on 7360A/8351A. If you do not want to have GLM calibration, in GLM you can go to "Group|Store Factory  Settings to SAM monitors" to make sure there is no room corrections made to the monitors.

We recommend to connect the cables from sound source to the subwoofer, and from subwoofer to the monitors. We also highly recommend to perform GLM calibration, but nobody will stop you if you want to do it otherway. :)

Hi Jani,

I am not using GLM because I have another room correction hardware system.

This has 3 outputs: L + R + LFE (sub). The system also handles the crossover.

I want to use the 8351a + 7360a in "Analog Only mode". The output of the room correction hardware unit is analog already. So there is no point of Genelec converting this from A->D and then from D->A again.

Is there any way to use Genelec in "Analog Only mode"? E.g. when I press "Bypass" on GLM software? Or is this not possible?

kind regards,

ian

I'm sorry to inform you, but it is not possible to bypass A/D/A convertion on the 8351A.
