Dip Switch Frequency 8351

Hey together,

what are the exact frequencies of the hardware dip switches at the back of the 8351?

Treble Tilt?

Bass Tilt?

Bass Roll-Off?

Thanks a lot!

Hello,

I would like to mention that usually the 8351A is on its best when used with the GLM calibration kit. ;)

If you would like to use the DIP-switches, you can find the effects for the freq. response from the manual, page 8.

Hello Jani,

sorry for the delay :-)

You know the thing is that I am really "nerdy" and interested in details regarding my equipment...

and that I travel from time to time with my speakers to work in other studios.

At home I use of course the GLM Kit.

But I have a fairly well treated room and used the 8351 a longer period of time without the GLM Kit. I got somehow used to the sound getting only using the dip switches. I rolled of some lows and highs using the dip switches. And so it would be really helpful for me to know which settings I have to use in GLM to replicate the exact dip switch frequencies.

I tried to replicate it with the info from the manual - but somehow it does not sound the same and the numbers are not clearly in the manual...

Bass Roll-Off Control

Bass Roll-Off control (switches 1 and 2) attenuates its output near the cut-off frequency. Attenuation levels of -2 dB (sw. 1 ON), -4 dB (sw. 2 ON) or -6 dB (both switches ON) can be selected.

Which Frequency = near cut-off frequency ??? Filter 1 and 2 in GLM???

Bass Tilt Control

The Bass Tilt control switches (swiches 3 and 4) offer three attenuation levels for the bass response below 800 Hz, usually necessary when the monitors are placed near room boundar- ies. The attenuation levels are -2 dB, -4 dB and -6 dB.

Which exact frequency = below 800 Hz??? Is Filter 1 or 2 with 800 Hz and -2,-4,-6 db the same in GLM as using the dip switch?

Desktop Low Frequency Control

The desktop low frequency control (switch 5) attenuates the bass frequencies around 160 Hz by 4 dB. This feature is de- signed to compensate for the boost often occurring at this frequency range when the monitor is placed upon a meter bridge, table or similar reflective surface.

Which Q uses the dip switch???

Treble Tilt Control

Treble Tilt control (switches 6 and 7) allows adjusting the tre- ble response above 5 kHz by +2 dB, -2 dB or -4 dB, which can be used for correcting an excessively bright or dull sounding system or to compensate for high frequency level loss if the monitor is placed behind a screen.

Which exact frequency = above 5 kHz??? Is Filter 3 with 5 kHz and +2,-2,-4 db the same in GLM as using the dip switch?

It would be really helpful if you were so kind to tell me which exact settings should be used in GLM to duplicate the dip switches.

Thanks a lot!

I'm sorry for the delay as well! I'm also sorry to inform you that I do not have the exact values and settings to give you at this point. If you like the specific sound with exact DIP-switches on, then I would say that you can continue by using the DIP-switches without GLM. However, I highly recommend to have the system calibrated with GLM, and if there is any acoustical issues or if you need help with settings the sound more to your preferences with GLM, could you be kind and please go to GLM|Help|Export setup to desktop and send the .zip file from the desktop to us at support@genelec.com and a picture of your room where your listening position and the monitors are visible and I can share some tips.

Hey,

Thank you for your answer.

No problem. I will find wokraround for that.

But thanks for your offer to take a look at my listening situation. Let us do that. I send you the zip file and a picture and I look forward to your opinion.

kind regards
