8341/8331 midrange changes?

Hello,

the 8341 and 8331 speakers seem to have a different midrange driver (or midrange driver cover) than the previous 8351 or 8260. What is the reason for this difference in appearance?

8260A and 8351A was using the same coaxial design that was designed first multiple years ago. For 8341A and 8331A it was not possible to downscale the same model. The new design for 8331A and 8341A coaxials had to designed from point zero. All the coaxials Genelec are using are very high quality, and made in the Genelec factory in Iisalmi, Finland.

Thanks for the answer. So, what I'm getting is that there aren't any improvements due to their more recent design other than the smaller size?

We are discussing about different products, that uses different designs. Due the new design of the coaxial for the 8331A/8341A, we managed to make a new small sized coaxial that is still capable of playing quite high SPL. As the coaxial is smaller in size, more displacement is needed and in that sence there is improvements, but however as 8351A/8260A coaxial is larger in size, not that much of displacement is needed.

I'm sorry I can't go much deeper in to the design of the coaxials as the construction is confidential, but acoustically (and mechanically) they both are top of the class.
