5.1 Mix Setup with 8331SAMs? Which subwoofer

Im a trailer/ commercial mixer looking to build a new 5.1 setup with the 8331 SAMs. Which subwoofer goes with the 8331 SAMs? The W371 SAM or 7350A SAM? Going to be using the GLM 3 Software as well.

Room dimensions 15 1/2' x 13' x 10' (4.7m x 3.9m x 3m)

Open to other suggestions but going bigger with five 8341s and the W371 might be overkill for such a small room.

Thanks for any suggestions or opinions in advance!

Hello friend,

First off, the W371 can't accept LEF signal, so it's not the right "sub" for multi-channel setup.
The tower is meant to be coupled with a single main for improved low frequencies of said main.

Second, you can't match the W371 with 8331. At this time, the former would only work with 8341, 8351B and 8361.

Bottom line, you shouldn't consider the W371 for your application.

As for a subwoofer, the 7350 is too small for 8331 x 5. You will run out of juice.
7370 is  the smallest sub Genelec recommends. You can can consider 7360 x 2, which will give you sufficient SPL with better control over low frequencies (eg.,e a flatter curve).

Hello,
Do you think that W371 will work with 8351A?
I hope to have the W371 to work with my 8351A next year.
Thanks!

with 8351 fo sure.

pretty sure 8331 would technically work with W371 but would be a strange combo. maybe if you're into dub.

First off, the 8351A is't compatible with the W371 since it contains the older DPS technology with only 10 filter.

Secondly, I vividly recall, upon launch, Genelec stating the 8331isn't compatible with the W371 either.

As far as I know, currently, only the 8341A, 8351B and 8361A can mate with the W371.

The s360 maybe add via a firmware upgrade.

I hope you're wrong.

Wouldn't make much sense if you ask me. New DSP is no reason for incompatability. Two different DSPs in two speakers can still agree on what frequency 85Hz is.

Planned obsolence hasn't been genelec's game for the last 40 years. fingers crossed.
