Do I need to run GLM after monitors are setup?

Do I need to always run GLM after monitors are setup? It seems I can disconnect the cable, and the only thing I no longer have is volume control. (I'm currently using the analog inputs so this isn't an issue)

What is the recommended approach? Leave the GLM always connected?

No you don't.

In a digital setup you'd wan't do keep the GLM hardware adapter connected for volume control.

If you like, you can buy the 90$ volume knob for GLM and hit the speakers with full analog volume.

Would be the equivalent of buying a monitor controller of infinite quality.

Is there a way to use the GLM + Volume control without being plugged into a computer? Can you just hook the GLM to a USB power supply?

Yes, works exactly as you described.
