Please add configurable delay to the calibration start. Previous version had a 5 second fixed countdown, this starts immediately.

Can I restore my previously stored calibrations in the cloud using this version? I was using the work around with running GLM under windows 10. I've saved my calibration to the cloud and was hoping I could restore it to the Mac using GLM4, but I just get a message that says my storage is empty.

It looks like the UI no longer shows the usb and mic as part of the devices? That was a little unexpected. I was thinking something wasn't working right, but after a bit I noticed that it was actually working.

The initial screen was a little confusing. Maybe provide a little message asking the user if they want to calibrate now or just go to an empty screen on first startup?

We have noticed that you have "home" setup saved in GLM3 cloud space. We have copied that setup now to your GLM4 cloud space, so you should be able to import it with GLM4 File->Open from Cloud

Soloed and muted speakers appearance is hard to see at least in Dark layout. Please make colors more visible. Also it would be great to have button on speaker icon to open info or acoustical editor without having always to go thru popupmenu.

I have to say that I really like that honeycomb background and overall look!

1) During calibration, after left speaker sweep, the left speaker switches to analog input for a while or at least it sounds like it, emitting high frequency hissing sound. (Edit: my fault, one spdif splitter was not powered on)

2) Calibrated results show identical response curve for both speakers, which is quite unusual, since I surely know that I don't have symmetric room. (Edit: after comparing to GLM3, it is evident that GLM4 shows the response curve of the right speaker for both)

3) If screen was hidden (in macOS) and GLM3 setup was imported, after the hidden screen is brought back, it does not contain correct visuals and controls get updated on mouse over / window resize.

4) I can't find setting to force the same eq on both speakers. I have understood that having different eq for individual speakers introduces phasing issues which are much more audible than having slightly different frequency responses.

Hello everyone!

My 8351b monitors + 7370a sub all report "analog input" with no option to change to AES. I don't have any analog inputs nor any plugs plugged into the analog connections. This makes GLM4 unusable for anyone using a digital connection as all sound is being output to a connection that isn't used with no apparent way of selecting AES.

Hi,
The input selection for digital/analogue is done in the setup, when you are in the "define SAM group" view. Right click (or Mac equivalent) on each monitor and subwoofer to bring up the info pop-up on each monitor/subwoofer. This allows you to edit on/off selection for the digital A/B channels as well as the analogue input, all even the combination of all of these.

Please see the attached frame capture.

If your have already created a setup, you can simply go to "Group Presets" | "Edit" and then right click on all the monitors and subwoofers to turn on the digital inputs.

Thanks for your reply!

I seem to have a whole new problem now -- ever since I reopened GLMv4 beta and followed your advice above my genelec volume knob's behavior has been erratic. I now have to turn the knob physically up halfway before the digital volume on GLMv4 moves up even the tiniest bit. The remaining 50% of the volume knob I have is unreliable because it's so touchy + jumpy and erratic. The jumpiness seems unpredictable and is quite frightening when the sound hits like that. In addition, it won't turn the volume up on my 7370a sub at all. If I mute my 8351b's and then crank the volume I can see the imagine of the subwoofer volume raising a single tick, but not enough for me to hear any sound coming out of it at all.

Any advice on what I could try to restore the original behavior of my 9310a volume knob?

For the time being I've successfully rolled back to using GLMv3 but if you find any solution for my problem above that would rule! It seems to be something in the software on v4 doesn't play nice with the volume controls!

Great that you finally made it.... looks good so far.

The only thing I do not understand; if you did a complete redesign why haven‘t you made it running as service? These kind of applications should not run as „normal application“.

It would be good to add in the manual how to tick the A versus B box on the digital input depend of the speaker setup. It took some time to figure it out by try and error.

Could you work to get the USB control capability integrated for the Griffen PowerMate.  Please.

Installation on Mac 10.15.5 and Windows 1909 all working.  Importing v3 settings worked as expected.

I opened V4, imported the calibration file I've been using from V3, and I'm hearing a large discrepancy between them. When I switch back to V3 I hear the monitors I've been accustomed to. Back to V4, it's markedly bass-shy every time.

Not sure this is applicable.  What I noticed was I had to "import" the settings from V3.  However, with V4 there is an issue where the import process doesn't properly identify that a subwoofer is not present and then also doesn't appear to set the bass management to "full" if that is how it was configured in V3.  I had to go through and manually reconfigure the groups i use.

OS: Windows 10

Features:

1. Please do not kick out the functions in V3! For example, No detailed info is displayed. (GLM unit status, firmware version, S/N, etc) No test functions. (mute woofer, mid, tweeter individually, signal generator.) No by-pass Autocal. No switch status. No GLM adaptor status. No restore to factory setup. Sound character profiler is no longer visible in the Acoustic editor.

2. Please do include a function to verify the calibration result. We understand the result may not look good. But we want to see the actual calibration result instead of using REW.

Bugs:

1. If the input signal is not muted, after calibrating the subwoofer phase, the subwoofer will play the signal at max volume. It is very terrifying!

2. If the glm adaptor is disconnected and reconnected, then the volume in GLM cannot be adjusted.

3. Sometimes. editing the group will cause a program crash.

Agreed; probably wrong for me to assume that even though a beta, 1st version, that it could released without the essential info functions... similar to the USB support.

I also like the idea of a verification function.

Graphic Bug - Windows 10.

Open Acoustic Editor for a monitor.  Notice the "average" level should be on "zero" db line... then expand the window with the "+" button in the upper right corner of window; observe the "average" line again it should be offset from the 0" db, press the "+ (dual windows)" again and the window should return the previous size however the "average" should not be displayed on the zero; then minimize selecting "-" and then expand "+" and the display should be correct again.

This is how it behaves on my system.  Using an nVidia P1000.

Maybe others have already found these:

I did not find a way to interrupt the initial calibration process. I had to kill the task in Windows task manager.

My speakers stayed off after calibration with GLM 4. I had to open GLM3 to use the speakers.

The grouping is still quite confusing with a simple stereo setup.

This is probably not GLM4 specific. I do not understand the bass correction under 100hz. With practically the same measurement under 100hz, the correction is very different in left and right. I made an individual correction, not the global one, with full range setting.

Hi Smoltron. You can interrupt the calibration process by clicking in the top right corner 'x'. This closes the calibration process and returns you to the main window.

Hi Smoltron. GLM 4 Beta defaults to playing audio in the analogue input. You can select the digital input A and B channels as well as mix mode analogue + digital (A and/or B) in the right click on monitors during setup. This should keep your monitors playing with GLM 4 using digital inputs.

I found the GLMv4 could make my 8341A support analog and AES3 input simultaneously if enable the analog and AES input in the group settings , sound will mixed and output, it even works when save the profile to the speaker.

By the way, cloud calibration is blocked by GFW in China (also community),if GLMv4 will only support cloud calibration in formal release please consider deploy a server in China.

Please consider adding export functionality for the room response/calibration curves - either raw data to csv or just the image. It would be nice to be able to compare different results in consistent way. Useful in case you are trying different speaker positions to find out the best possible result.

Hi, All

I performed some tests on the features of GLM 4 and share the results.

The tests were performed on version 0.4.3 of GLM4.

Testing was done on Mac OS Mojave, Catalina and Windows 10.

It showed almost similar results regardless of Mac and Windows OS.

1. The first measurement after confirming layout and group

: The sweep sound is not reproduced in the measurement immediately after confirming the layout and the group.

However, once I skip the measurement, confirming the layout and group, then go back to the measurement and proceed, the sweep sound reproduce without problem.

Both Mac and Windows have the same problem.

2. Add group

: Up to 10 groups can be added. If I click the button to add 11th group, the software shuts down.

Both Mac and Windows have the same problem.

3. Multi-point measurement

: In GLM3, measurement was possible in 4 places including the primary point. In the GLM4, the guide points (left, right, behind) have disappeared, and measurement in more places is possible. Up to 11 multi-points were tested and there were no problems.

Please let me know how many multipoint measurements are possible.

4. Set Preset level button

: There is no problem in the preservation function of Level Preset, but there is a problem in the process that the set value is applied and displayed. The setting value display will not be reflected unless the setting value is saved and the button is pressed once.

5. SAM Power system

: In conjunction with GLM On/Off, speaker power on/off works without problem

6. Edit layout function

: It is possible to replace with another speaker of the same model while keeping the GLM measurement data.

7. Sound character profiler

: Overall sound control without problem

8. Saving the ISS function

: ’Store to Loudspeaker' function save settings without problem. And ISS work properly.

9. Bass management bypass button

: In GLM 3 Ver.3.1.0 the status of the Bypass button is preserved and the status of last used information even when the software is re-opened. However, in GLM Ver.3.1.1 and Ver.3.2.0 the state of the button is refreshed and the last state is not preserved.

GLM 4, like GLM 3 Ver.3.1.0, can remember the last used state and preserve it.

10. GLM Ver.3 data Import

: It is possible to import data, but it is inconvenient to use because the speaker layout is deformed or the layout size is set too large.

11. Export setup to desktop

: It is possible to export settings as a .zip file to the desktop with little problems. When exporting a GLM setup files with a large number of groups, sometimes a failure occurred because the creation of a folder for storing data was not done properly in Windows.

I will continue to do further testing and will share any results that are confirmed.

Best regards,

Choi

1. Default settings for frequency range is 85Hz for my pair of 8330 without sub. It should be full range.
2. Lack of bypass calibration btn ( I have created a group with no calibration as workaround).
3. Levels in a speaker hexagon have no scale.

Genelec, your case and software-development is so depressive reading for everyone who knows your great products. Announcement about no new beta, without release date of production version, closed development and really poor software implementation (no 64-bit production release of main-software in 2020) ... no comment at all.

Need the 5 second countdown during calibration

Preset levels are not editable

Would like to edit group name from main page without clicking into Group edit window

Have to set level 6db lower in GLM4 in comparison to GLM3 (not good or bad, just an observation) Is GLM4 weighted differently?

Hello
I have encountered one problem
To control the loudness of the system I use a DIY knob (10k resistor), the resistor I use is logarithmic. The issue is that in the GLM 4 the resistance calculation algorithm have changed. The level stays at -130dB till the halfway through and then increases very fast.

Should I consider to get a linear potentiometer or the resistance calculation algorithm in the final version will be same as in GLM3?

My system is:
windows 10 LTSC
7.1 surround

Best Regards

UPDATE:  I have noticed that this behavior only occurs when the GLM4 application is open.  When I quit the GLM4 application, my Genelec volume control works as it should.  I will note, however, that I have not yet performed the "Store Preset to Loudspeakers" function since installing GLM4.  I purposely didn't do that, because everything was set up perfectly using GLM3, and I don't want to mess anything up.  Perhaps that was a good move.  I wonder, if I stored my current preset to the speakers, whether I'd have this volume control issue even when I quit the GLM4 application.  I'm not planning to find out.

ORIGINAL POST:  I have the same issue as the previous post, except I'm using the Genelec Volume Control (not a DIY knob).

Running OS X 10.15.6.  GLM network adapter.  GLM4 0.4.3.  Straightforward stereo setup (2 x 8330A).

The bottom part of the volume control (from 7:00 to 11:00) does absolutely nothing.  Everything below 11:00 keeps the volume set at -130dB.  Turning it the rest of the way (from 11:00 to 5:00) moves the volume from -130dB to 0dB.  This is pretty frustrating that the software doesn't even work properly with Genelec's $110 volume potentiometer.  Please fix this in a future revision as soon as possible.

It looks like I am not alone, I assume it will be sorted then the final version will be released.
The beta means testing and finding problems, as for now, I am sticking with GLM 3.
Best wishes

Hello, while I am not an owner of SAM speakers/GLM kit (for now), I just wanted to know if that mandatory cloud calibration "feature" was permanent or just a result of the beta state of the software. Because that's a big no-no for some people like me.

Same problem here with the Genelec volume knob, installed the V4 beta 0.4.3 yesterday on MacOS 10.14.6. I also had a -40dB limit on all my setups in V3, they disappear in V4? All dangerous stuff if you ask me, perfect volume control is priority no.1 in my opinion. I'm also a big time user of the RF volume control, so I guess I'll be waiting a long time to try V4 again. Sorry, but quite a disappointment for now, even for a beta version... At least I can go back to 3.2.0, all it lacks is a dark mode. J

1. It would be nice if you add an icon to the menu bar for quick control of monitors, groups and bypass.
2. In the future, update the icon shape in accordance with the Mac OS Big Sur
3. Also in the future, you may be interested in creating an application for a smartphone to control monitors without being near a computer.

+1 for a menu bar icon on macOS. I would love the ability to have this menu bar addition display the dbSPL value from the GLM Mic. I check the GLM GUI all the time to check if I'm monitoring at responsible levels, and it would be super convienent to just have this value always in the macOS menu bar.

Have a pair of 8351B, with GLM 4 they do not wake up when hearing a signal, nor go to bed when not active. Many times I use then without GLM when computer is not used.  Is this feature missing from beta?
