G3+F2 with Yamaha WXC50, volume control

This is a question about volume control.

I have two G3 speakers connected to the F2 subwoofer with RCA-RCA cable. The F2 is then connected to the Yamaha WXC50 preamp with optical.

Ihave heard pros and cons about digital volume control and got some recommendations to let the F2 do all the volume control. How much quality will I loose if I do the volume control digitally on the WXC50. The reason I'd like to do this is it let's me control the audio directly from my phone.

Thanks for any comments.
