Thank you for all the years of Community discussions and activity!

The time has come for us to retire the community forums, but we will keep everything available for reading. There is a lot of valuable content written over the years, and you'll be able to access all of that. However, no new posts can be written, or old posts modified.

If you have questions, we recommend you use the Support function on the bottom right corner to contact our Customer Support directly.

Alternatively, if you wish to engage in a community discussion with other people, there are many active forums available. There is also an active, fan managed GENELEC COMMUNITY in Facebook, and many Genelec employees are active in the discussions there.

We are sorry for any possible inconvenience this may cause you, but we hope to hear from you through the other channels mentioned above.

1030A problem

Hi! My trusty old 1030A:s has began to behave strange. After some hours of listening, the volume fades away completely. Restart, and they work again.

I suspect the SMD caps; these are prone to cause problems after 10 years or so. Am I right?

Hi, @jansjobe !

This fault can possibly be caused by capacitors, indeed. But we can't be sure about that without inspecting the amplifier first. I would recommend servicing the monitor at our authorized technical service.

Please, fill service form for Swedish customers on our site and technician will contact you with more information about the repair: https://www.genelec.se/service

Thank You for your answer!

I recapped all but the bipolar on one of the speakers, and it sounds as new!

On the other, the bipolar cap is almost twice its marked value. Is it OK to replace with a film cap, or is this going to make it sound too harsh?

I have been doing electronic repairs for over 40 years, so I am not going to need Your service center, but thanks anyway!

Best Regrads,
