Do i need subwoofer

Hey.

I have 8330 sam bundle with glm and I mainly use them for streaming music in my  room from yamaha pre-amplifier. I was wondering how much difference would 7050 genelec subwoofer bring. Would it fill the room more and make the sound more full and filling?

Also would you have some recommendatons about settings in glm software that would make the sound very powerful and full?

I am not pro and Im looking for good sound with power to fill the room.

regards Alvar

If you sit over 2m from the speakers
and have electronic music on your menu, I'd recommend the sub.

For "fuller" sound you'd have to look at the EQ settings in GLM.
With GLM we can only take stuff away, not add, but that's okay.
Idea 1: more bass, idea 2: "Disco Smile"
1. GLM measurement usually gives 1-3 strong filters below 100Hz.
Reduce their dB setting by ~30%
2. Add filter to reduce the mids. very wide filter, -1 to -3dB, between ~1.000 and 2.000Hz

The 7050 isn't a SAM sub, you should definitely be looking at a 7350 instead.

I disagree on that 2m distance as a relevant factor... A sub will most certainly extend the lows very favourably at closer distances as well, but the crossover frequencies need to be carefully selected and, generally, set lower than default.

Ah yes, very good point about the analogue sub.
I only asked for listening distance to check if the sub will end up under a desk.
If it's over 2m, then it's a straightforward "yes, sub" w/o many questions.

Yes, you need one :) Even if you hear a guitar in low level. The addition of a sub is absolutely necessary. For several serious reasons such as:

- Music is not limited to the capabilities of the 8330s as a full-range speaker (and generally, most speakers cannot make it)

- Even the guitar extends lower than you think (with sub-harmonics)

- Fine bass performance is extremely critical for the perceived feeling of music

- The placement of sub & satelites is mostly contradictory, the sub "feels" better close to walls while the satelites away from them and close to our ears, in a proper triangle

Anyway, when you buy a 7350 you will realize the difference :)

Thank you for all the answers. I want to highlight that I am just a guy who uses genelecs as tv speakers and for listening music. I dont understand a lot about hifi and I just autocal the speakers thats all. So does the 7350 sub still make a difference that someone like I can clearly notice while just listening music. Is it worth the 1000 euros it costs.

huge help from u guys. Thanks again.
