Sitting less than a meter from 8351. Is there a way to turn down the gain? Muting in GLM doesn't affect hiss.

Hi There,

I would be interested in this post as I am considering a purchase of the 8351A could you elaborate on the gain or hiss not being affected in GLM whilst listening less than a meter from the monitor.

Regards

Visit an 8351. Stick your ear up to the tweeter. Hear hiss. It's pretty quiet, but it's there. Neither mute in GLM, nor individual driver mute in GLM has any affect on it. I own 3 pairs of 8351. My 8040's sound slightly less hissy.

Muting in GLM affects only to the hiss which is generated before the volume control (just before D/A conversion and power amplifiers), for example if your source device(s) create hiss, you can attenuate it by turning down the level in GLM.
