7073A What should I set as input sensitivity value?

My processor is a Trinnov altitude with a 6.15 Vrms output. What is the recommended 7073A input setting?

Hi,

Subwoofer's input gain does not really matter as you have well enough output voltage from your source. You can set it to -6 dBu and calibrate the system using Trinnov's channel trims.

What kind of main speakers do you have?

Passive, full range. 92dB sensitivity.

I just got the sub back from Genelec service after a blown amp was replaced. The input sensitivity appears to be set at -12.

Today, playing a movie with heavy bass and Trinnov set to +3dB bass I heard it clip twice. Measured spl was ~100dB max loudness from all speakers. In a 15'X21'X9' room I am surprised to hear two small pops. I adjusted bass to +2dB.

Have you calibrated your system with an SPL meter or Trinnov's own microphone? If the subwoofer level is just set by ear, it can be easily 10 dB too hot which causes clipping.

I used Trinnov microphone. The more that I thought about it the issue may have been due to the other channel of the dual mono amp and the distortion may have been from the speaker next to the sub. I have replaced the amp and will test. 3dB hot should be tolerated?

It is impossible for me to say that because our system specifications are always for Genelec mains and Genelec subwoofer. If your main speakers are really large, then a single 7073 might not be enough. For example we specify 2x 7073 subwoofers for Genelec 1x34 monitors which have dual 12" woofers and 125 dB maximum output (at 1 meter) specification.
