5 speaker setup

Hi Users,

This is my first post but I would be interested in members thoughts on setting up 5 speaker sound.
I currently own a pair of Genelec 8340A's as my rear monitors but would like to include 3 further
monitors up front within a home studio setup.

I am considering the following
1 x Genelec 8340A monitor
2 x Genelec 8320A's
or
2 x Genelec 8340 IP
1 x Genelec 8320A

Anyone offer further advice on these running GLM 2.O calibration software together in one system.

Hi,

Typically it is recommend to use larger monitors in front as the LCR while the surround monitors can little bit smaller models. So I would recommend getting one more 8340 for the center channel and maybe two 8330 or 8320 for the surround channels. All SAM monitors can be easily configured and calibrated with the GLM software.

To Ilkka Rissanen,

Is it a requirement to include a subwoofer for 5.1 sound or could a single monitor like the Genelec 8340A be used for bass output then add the 8330's or 8320's as higher frequency tweeter elements into a suitable recording and monitoring system.

Also would a single Genelec 8351A SAMâ„¢ Studio Monitor be usable as the centre monitor combined with the 8340A's along with a pair of 8330's or 8320's as the LR surrounds to give the overall frequency response of a 5.1 system.

I would appreciate any further thoughts

Hi there,

It is not necessary to have a subwoofer in the system if you do not require to have system bass extension down to 20 Hz or below. A large enough front speakers can reproduce the bass frequencies + LFE channel quite well already. Of course it all depends on your requirements.

All three front speakers should be the same model.
