8351A: More DSP Filter by firmware update?

I like my 8351A very much. For better room correction I would like to have more than the available 10 DSP filters. 20 DSP filters as available on the 8350 would be fine.

Is this a limitation of the built-in DSP Hardware of the 8351A or of the firmware? If firmware, are there plans to extend the number of the DSP filters for the 8351A in the future by firmware update?

Hi there,

The amount of filters is limited by the available DSP processing time and that is hardware limited. 8350 has updated DSP processor and therefore it can handle more filters. Unfortunately it is not possible to add more processing time via firmware update.

RETROFITTING?

Are Genelec SAM speakers retrofittable? Can older SAM versions be updated with newer digital hardware (DSP processor, DAC)?

Hi,

We have never done this kind of retrofitting so I don't see it happening in the future either. We will typically release a new revision with updated features and performance upgrades.

LONGEVITY

It would be a nice feature, though, if it were possible to exchange digital circuitry modules when newer technology is available to increase the products' life.

It seems like digital tech has a shorter life than the speaker tech in general?
