Stereo 2.1 with G3+?

Hello there,

I have purchased G3 and while waiting I have been thinking about further steps. From different sources I found that I could benefit by adding a sub and it seems to me that options are not multiple. FTwo is the only option for me, isn't it? If so, I am ineteresting why for more expensive speakers ( comparing with 8030s) I am limited with subwoofers. If there any other options? Do I need other options? Preferable music is Jazz, Blues and a bit of rock ( not heavy). Room is not prepared for music and its renting apartments.

Thanks,

Kirill

Hi,

Purely looking at our home audio lineup, the only suitable subwoofer model is F Two. But if you want to take a step towards our professional lineup, you can find newly released 7360 and 7370 models there. They both are suitable for your G Three speakers and can support even much larger speakers (especially the 7370) if you plan to upgrade in the future.

Thank you for reply.

I am wondering what difference in G3 except additional RCA input make them incompatible with professional subwoofers.
Would you please tell me how differs Ftwo from a professional analouge?
Thanks.

Hi,

I think you understood it wrong. The G Three is perfectly compatible with our professional range subwoofers.

Performance wise F Two is similar to 7350A but the latter is GLM compatible which means you can calibrate it into your listening space with great accuracy using our GLM 2.0 software and measurement microphone. 7360 and 7370 are just larger models with much higher performance. Also the appearance of these is totally different from the F Two but that you can see already from the pictures. Have you already visited our website?

Hello Ilkka, in another post there is mention that the G3 is not compatible with 7350A subwoofer because the sub is missing high pass filters needed for bass management.

But if i understand this post correctly, it states the opposite?

So to clarify, is the 7350A compatible with the G3:s ?

Regards,

Taneli

Thank you for the commenst regarding sub selection.

I have been lestening my G3 during a month and filing myself happy. At this point I use my iPhone as a sourse of music.
However this is a temporarily decison and I am thinking on the next step. Primarily I had planned to nuild just a stereo 2.1 and considering tube DAC and preamps. Now I am thinking on having a system for home stereo and HT and it seems to me that AV processor might be a good choice for me. Could you please give me a couple of recomendations which direction to look for?

Thanks

Hi,

Good choice! There are literally hundreds of different models to choose from. Every manufacturer offers at least a couple of models which can be used with active monitors. The most important feature that you need to look for is the pre amplifier outputs which output the right kind of signal to your monitors. Typically most affordable models do not have these so pay attention to the specifications. Brands you can check are for example Yamaha, Marantz, Onkyo, Pioneer, Anthem, Denon, NAD, Cambridge Audio, Harman/Kardon, Sony, in no particular order. :)

Correct input signal? Genelec's are active monitors so they require line level (not speaker level) input signal. Your G Three has both RCA and XLR input connectors.

Hello,

I am going to purchase stand speakers Genelec Z8000-409B and wandering if I can attache them directly to the threated hole on the bottom of my G3 without any plates? I have a small two years old son so I want my speakers being attached to heavy stands for protection.

Thank you in advance,

Kirill

Does it mean I can callibrate all the system (5.1)with 7350A? Or just a subwoofer?

Thanks

Thank you Ilkka for prompt reply, but my question was about glm callibration. If I attach speakers to smart subwoofer will I be able to calibrate all speakers with subwoofer or I need to have all speakers with Sam as well to calibrate them?

Thank you in advance,

Kyrylo

Sorry, I was looking at your old question. :)

SAM subwoofer cannot calibrate non-SAM monitors. Calibration is done inside each unit so monitors need to be SAM compatible too.

It said to identify that when monitors have been bought already. Should have read more before buying. Regardless I am in loved with Genelec. Will never buy another brand.

I found a topic discussed earlier about G3 and DAC compatibilty. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1369&hilit=teac

It seems like not any DAC is compatible with Genelec, isn't it? I'm going to listen teac dac today in the show room so I'm wondering if there any comments on DAC selection?

Thank you in advance

Hi Kirill,

I think you have misunderstood it slightly. There is no problem with using any DAC with Genelec products. There are only a few special cases, such as the F Two subwoofer which has lower maximum input voltage than our other products. There you may have problems with DACs with high output voltage IF you want to drive then at full level. If the DAC has volume control to lower its output voltage, then even the F Two won't have any problems at all.
