ISS Problem & Ground Loop Noise in Genelec 8010a PLEASE HELP

Youngling Posts: 6 Join Date: 5/6/16 Recent Posts
Hello My name is Diego & I recently bought ae pair of 8010's with my local distributor (Vari Internacional Mexico)
I'm experiencing 2 problems: 1- I get a ground loop HISS as soon as I turn on the Monitor (even with no audio connection whatsoever) and 2- since I'm pretty sure I'm getting Ground loop noise the ISS does't work because it's detecting this static i think... (I can leave the monitors on with no audio connection and they won't go on standby not even after a couple of hours...  ) Cheers.

Hi Diego,

Could I please ask you to contact Vari International Mexico because they are your local distributor and are able to provide you much better local support. Could you for example visit them and let them test your monitors?

1. Ground loop problems do not cause hissing, the most common symptom is a 50/60 Hz hum. Also, ground loop problems are typically related to systems with unbalanced connections. You should know that all active speakers have some amount of self induced noise. You can hear some amount if hissing if you listen at very close distance is a quiet room. Could you record a short video clip for example with your phone demonstrating the hiss that you are experiencing? It is impossible for me to say now whether that is normal or not. Have you disconnected the audio cables from the speaker end?

2. It is true that ISS does not activate if there is lot of noise in the audio or mains signal. It maybe related to the first problem or not.

I believe you mean hiss, but yes that is perfectly normal, nothing to worry about.
