Home Hifi iPhone to 8040B rig Questions

Recovering consumer passive speaker audiophile new to powered monitors and digital.

I understand that I can simply plug my music server Macbook pro, iPad, or iPhone in to a pair of 8040B without the need of a dac.

Is there any real sound quality benefit of having anything anything in between the computer and the 8040B pair?

I can use the iPhone or Macbook Pro for volume control?

I am a half crazy old timer who sees conspiracies everywhere and is leery of proprietary iTunes. Is there another software that would be recommended to play the music and control volume?

Hi industrial!

I might be biased by my recent purchases but my simple answer to these questions is simply...yes, oh my YES.

By "accident" I started to develop an interest for downloading music, and HD such. Means DSD or similiar high sample rate music files (i.e higher than 16bit/44.1kHz).
I digged deeper into this World and after a few weeks research I made my first purchase to enable playing native DSD files. I bought a Chord Mojo. I kind of dislike expressions like "OMG" but I really have to apply it here myself. The DAC:s released the past few years is something else. Really something else. Enabling playing DSD files really take off to new heights of sound quality.
Another few weeks later my next purchase is the Wired4Sound Recovery USB Reclocker. Now you know me==> OMG! Cleaning the even world class sounding Chord Mojo SQ up even more, defining everyting to the extreme.

SO my answer is, again, YES.

Do your research around these to gadgets and I know you will give me credits in a while. ;)

The quickest and cheapest way to high-end Music consumption. Even Spotify will make you happy. Tidal will make you happier. DSD files will make you cry...
