Electronical hum from 5040

As I was to power off my 5040 I noticed a humming sound, almost like if there was an electronical relay that was making this hum. It is not the same type of noise that the speakers make when no playback is present. Should I worry or is there an explanation for this hum?

"As I was to power off" What does this actually mean? Did the noise go away or is it present all the time?

When I was about to turn I off I heard this hum. It's present all the time, except when turned off of course.

And it is still there after you power it on again? And how about if you unplug all cables except power? Please provide more detailed information so that I can assist you.

Yes its still there. I'll try without cables when I get home. I'll try to record the hum/buzz as well. Is there supposed to be any kind of noise on the subs as there are on the speakers?

Hi Ilkka, I've done some more testing and even without input- and output cables the hum is present. I am certain it's not any kind of white noise like the speakers produce, it is some kind of electronical buzz, exactly like old relays that aren't humfree. Other than the buzz it works flawlessly, you can only hear it when leaning one ear on the top of the 5040.

I just bought this brand new, hope it's not broken already.

Hi,

I just tested a brand new one and small amount of hum is normal if you place your ear close to the woofer. No need to worry about. :)

I dont think its coming from the woofer on mine. Can you hear a kind of buzzing if you place your ear on the top of the subwoofer cabinet? Id say it sounds like "drrrrrrrr"

Difficult to say for sure without hearing or a video clip, but it is most probably some transformer hum/buzz which can differ some from unit to unit. Again, nothing to be worried about.
