F Two Volume Control

I was trying to google around for some info on how that is implemented/how it operates, but I couldn't find anything on the subject apart from the mention of its existence (and that it's analog).

Would for example you, Ilkka, be able to tell something about it?

I'm planning to maybe pair the F Two sub with the 8020C speakers and a SACD player/DAC for a 2nd system at home, with a maximally pristine signal path as an ideal, and am basically just wondering if the volume control in the sub is maybe an afterthought of some kind, like if it is meant basically for, say, movie watchers to get by without any other volume controller in the system. To finance the deal, namely, I am going to put for sale my high-quality preamp (Funk MTX-Monitor) and am worried about a volume control "downgrade." So what does it (the F Two level control) do to the signal and how (well) does it do that?

Many thanks if you can say something about this.

Hi Timo,

The volume control adjustment is done in digital domain (I have to edit my earlier response). Unfortunately I can't share more details about it or compare it to another device. Comparisons like this should always be performed by the user himself because specifications and numbers do not always tell you the whole truth. I recommend that you compare these two options with your own system and ears.

Many thanks for taking the time to answer, Ilkka; and apologies for lack of clarity: didn't mean to ask for any comparisons (which would have been very dumb of me), just for any info that might be available to get some idea of the controller and how it works.

The prob where I live is that it seems difficult to arrange for a listening session: separate sellers for the pro and home hi-fi lines, and just 2 sellers for the former and only 1 for the latter, it seems (most everything is sold online only these days), and even though some pro units are there on the display shelves the listening conditions are basically nonexistent. I, moreover, seriously doubt a home demo would be possible to arrange (even if one were to be able to loan the F2 and the 8020 from the same source, which, as said, are carried by different sellers). Will PM you in case you might now the scene better, if you don't mind.

Thanks again and all the best,

Timo
