Humming sound from 8030A

I bought a pair of 8030A a while ago in Germany and am now using them in the US, meaning the power strip is connected to a 110V-230V transformer (with a ground connection)[1], they are connected to the RCA output of my mixer[2]. When using the speakers I notice two things:

- humming sound even if just the power cable is plugged in
- distorted sound in what I think is the upper low and mid frequency band.

Both symptoms are consistently noticeable on both speakers, which is why I hope something in my setup is wrong. If they had broken during transport (or storage) I wouldn't expect both speakers to be broken in the exact same way.

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Your symptoms sound as if you were operating the speakers with wrong voltage, 110V instead of 230V. What type of step up transformer do you have? The device you linked is just a power strip, it doesn't perform any voltage conversion.

Oh, wow. You are right, I didn't read the spec of the power strip correctly, thought it would do the transformation as well.
I'll get a proper transformator and retry.
