Volume Controller "Crackling" Noises

Hi Guys,

having issues with my little Volume Controller 9310A, which causes "crackling" noises and doesn't keep a steady volume.
I'm only able to turn it all the way up without it being problematic, but that isn't always suitable :).

Anyone know how I can fix this issue? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

It doesn't sound(!) like normal behaviour but you could try to rotate it a few times fully close and open (without signal playing). If that doesn't cure the crackling noise, you should contact your local distributor and request a new unit.

Hi Ilkka,

maybe I didn't explain a correctly. The problem is reoccruing now quite strongly. The issue being when I change the volume using the controller, the speakers' volume doesn't change smoothly. Instead, it makes loud cracking noises and the volume is very very jumpy.

Is it the speakers themselves, or the controller? What should I test?

Are you sure you have the 9310A and not the 9000A volume controller? They look the same but have different connectors and operation.

Hi guys,

this is an issue again now. I am using the 9310A Volume Controller with my 8020s connected to my Subwoofer.

So, when playing back music I get this rattling/cracking sound and the volume might jump around a bit aswell once I've stopped changing the volume. I made a quick video (see attachment).

I assume it's the control itself creating this issue, as I got rid of it before by turning the knob all the up and down. But now it's very bad.

Anyone know wtf is going on?

Hi Fabian,

I'm sorry to hear about this issue. If it is in warranty time, you should ask for a new unit from your local distributor. Please let me know where you are from, and I'll provide you contact details.

If it is out of warranty time, you can also contact us at service@genelec.com and I can share few tips that could also help with this problem.

Best Regards,

Hello Jani,

thanks for your reply. I'd be happy to get some tips on how to fix this. I'll also contact your service via mail as it's out of Warranty.
