Signal processing when using 8351's with analogue input

I am auditioning a pair of 8351's as replacement for my main monitors (home audio).

My current set up is as follows: HDD/Mac mini running iTunes with Pure Music 3.01/USB/Benchmark HGC DAC/balanced analogue cables/8351's (previously Event Opal's). The Genelecs are a great step up in performance.

The source music files I listen to vary is sample rates up to 192 kHz, I also have some DSD.

As I'm using the 8351's' analogue input could someone explain what then happens to the signal before it reaches the speaker cone - is the analogue signal re-processed A/D then back to D/A?

Hi,

Signal processing inside the speaker is always done in digital domain so if you want to avoid extra conversions, you should use digital input signal.

Thanks Ilkka,

If I use The digital input do the 8351's accept a DSD input?
I'm looking into using the Benchmark's digital pass-through capability.

Unfortunately DSD is not supported.

DSD to PCM real-time conversion

No need to go back to analogue, just get a DDC.

Pure music has real-time conversion of DSD to PCM during playback.

Check it out: www.channld.com/puremusic/

For DDC's, check out discussions on www.computeraudiophile.com like:

Can you please share your setup for this hardware?
What are the specifications for the 8351 and what interfaces it uses for the other devices?
Also how you are able to achieve the Signal Processing using the 8351?
