Using 8030Bs with European Power in the United States

Youngling Posts: 1 Join Date: 11/5/15 Recent Posts
Hi everyone.

I recently acquired some White 8030Bs from a European friend, and I would like to know if I could either use a Step Up transformer to power them, or if I could get these serviced locally so the IEC can accept 120v/United States power? I live in the New York City area, so any recommendations for a service technician would also be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

It is possible to use a step up transformer, with at least 300 VA rating.

Is there such a thing like "automatic voltage switching" , I live in Mexico and we have 110V so I asked for a voltage info to Juno Records in UK via ebay and they replied this ....

"Sorry to be contradictory, but the forum post you posted is from 2010. They have since introduced automatic voltage switching.

I have just checked the unit myself and it does indeed say 110-240V on the back."

That answer was because I found a post in here from 2010 saying each world region have different voltage and we need a step down transformer in order to use the speakers, so it is true that new 8000 series have automatic voltage switch?

Thanks
J

Hi,

8030 (any revision) does NOT have universal mains voltage i.e. automatic voltage switching.

Your contact must mean the SAM series model 8330 (and also smaller 8320) which are new and have this feature.
Also 8010, M030 and M040 monitors and 7040 subwoofer have this feature.

Sorry to bring up old post. Can we add 8020D monitors to the list of US/EU automatic voltage support ?

I see the same 100-240v, 50/60 Hz on back of my 8020Ds and would like to bring them from Ukraine to US and get rid of hassle of using step-down bricks.

Hi Arto,

G One B-version is suitable to use with 100-240V, but G One A-version bought from Finland only works with 230V. You can find the voltage that can be used from the voltage sticker, which is located on the back cover of the monitor. There is always mentioned which voltage you can use to your specific monitor.

Pictures of G One A here: https://www.genelec.com/support-technology/previous-models/g-one-a-active-speaker
Pictures G One B here: https://www.genelec.com/home-speakers/g-series-active-speakers/g-one-active-speaker

PS: I added G One B to Ilkka's list above.

Hi, I’ve just moved to Germany from the US, where I purchased my 8030C’s and I wanted to check with you before I plug them in and turn them on using a European IEC cord that it will be compatible. It looks like some of the posts on this thread conflict with each other and I wanted to make sure before potentially damaging my monitors. Thank you!

Hello,

Ilkka's post was made 3-year ago, when the 8030C model was not manufactured. 8030C is our latest 8030 -version and it has universal mains voltage and it can be used both in Germany and USA.
