Thank you for all the years of Community discussions and activity!

The time has come for us to retire the community forums, but we will keep everything available for reading. There is a lot of valuable content written over the years, and you'll be able to access all of that. However, no new posts can be written, or old posts modified.

If you have questions, we recommend you use the Support function on the bottom right corner to contact our Customer Support directly.

Alternatively, if you wish to engage in a community discussion with other people, there are many active forums available. There is also an active, fan managed GENELEC COMMUNITY in Facebook, and many Genelec employees are active in the discussions there.

We are sorry for any possible inconvenience this may cause you, but we hope to hear from you through the other channels mentioned above.

1030A Bass issue

On my pair of 1030As, I've recently started to notice a disparity between the two speakers. At first I thought it might actually be my hearing, but I've since done a few tests and ruled that out, as well as cable and sound source troubles.

Experiments with test tones indicate that the two speakers reproduce bass a little differently: On one (which I call "the good one" ;)), bass volume starts to noticeably drop off between 39.4 Hz and 36.9 Hz. On the other monitor however, the volume drop is somewhere between 42.1 and 39.4. As a consequence, that speaker is perceptibly less full in the bass, and quieter overall because of it. I played around with the calibration switches on the good one, and the effect is similar, but perhaps not identical, to a -4 dB setting on Bass Tilt.

Is this something that has happened to others before? Is there something I can personally do about it? Is it something that can be repaired?

Thank you!

For sure it is not normal behaviour but since the speaker units are already quite old (10...20 years), it is possible that something has failed within the electronics or the drive units. I would recommend you to contact your local distributor and request a service.
