1238a and ISS

I am unsure, if ISS is operational on my 1238a.

On my small 4010s, if ISS is active, the green light is off.
On my 1238, the green light never goes off, no matter of the settings in the GML manager. In GML manager I did set 0,5 hours and then it states "ISS timer is set".

My 1238 are in digital mode most times. I have a USB-AES bridge running (a Bryston BUC1) and thought it might be some kind of digital signal even if no music is playing, however, having it powered off, the 1238 blink red (indicating no signal) and keep blinking red for hours.

So my question is: how do the 1238 indicate standby?

Hi,

When ISS is activated, both front panel and amplifier LEDs are turned off. You should notice that the ISS won't be activated if you have the GLM software online.

Ilkka, thanks for your answer. I thought of turning off the Bryston but not the GML software. As you said, it works if I turn of the software.

However, I am not really happy, as I run a slightly unusual setup here: one Mac running GML software and GML unit attached and other non-wired Macbooks that control the first Mac when necessary. Therefore, GML is always connected to the fixed Mac and software is always running. And this Mac never goes to sleep.

I assume that there is no setting to tell the speakers to go to sleep even when the software is running?
I think it could be a fine enhancement for future versions to make this configurable - and in addition, would it technically be possible to add a "go to standby"-Button in the GML software next to the Mute-Button to improve both comfort and energy saving?

Hi,

Thank you for feedback, we will see if an additional feature could be added for the future versions.

Try to activate ISS standby mode on my 8351a: but ISS don't work.
The 8351a connected to Lynx Studio AES16e.
What I do: on PC in GLM 2.0.2 soft activate "sleep after 0.5 hour" then shut down pc (glm led interface still light yellow). 8351 become blinking red light and still blinking red (even after 0.5h) till next power on my pc.
How to activate ISS?

Hi,

The yellow LED on the adapter indicates that it is still being powered by the USB bus. And when it is powered, it is sending volume control commands to the speakers and the ISS won't ever activate. Can you check from computer settings if there is a option to disable USB power during power off mode? Another option is to unplug the GLM adapter from the computer so that it doesn't get power any more.

I checked BIOS but in my mainboard bios there are not usb power off setting. The same story if I connect glm to active usb hub - it's also always powered on.
Sorry, Ilkka, but second option "unplug glm interface" - not right option IMHO.
Could you add an feature to GLM interface/soft to tell monitors go sleep if not GLM soft running or an option in GLM soft to send Standby mode to monitors when soft shut down?
As we see not every mainboard support power off usb ports.

ISS don't work at all in my setup even after shut down and total power off the PC by PCU switch (so no power on usb).
What I did: in glm soft chose "sleep in 0.5 hour">>shut down windows>>8351 start blinking red>>power off pc pcu + unplug interface for total sure that no power on interface>> after 1 hour red light still blinking
What's wrong?

That is very strange behaviour. Can you take a screenshot of the acoustical editor (double click either speaker) so that we can see the firmware version of the speaker? Thank you!

You should update your GLM software to the newest version (2.0.3). ISS function was updated there for three-way systems.

Install 2.0.3
1. ISS become work
2. Once I see an error of glm see attached file. It occurs after I start Windows and try to run glm (glm soft start automatically by Windows Startup/Autolunch). But this time volume level was ok.

I need to re-activate this thread.

Before upgrading from GML from 1.5 to 2.0 the behaviour was:
- ISS activates only, if GML software on computer is closed and USB/AES-Bridge is off. No matter, if computer is still running and thus powering the old GML unit or not

- Power Button on 1238 works to power off the speakers, no matter, if GML software is running.

After upgrading the GML unit to 2.0 and running 2.0.5:
- ISS activates only, if GML software on computer is closed and USB/AES-Bridge is off. No matter, if computer is still running and thus powering the old GML unit or not

- Power Button on 1238 does not work any more as long as the GML software is running.

- Only if the GML software is closed (and computer/gml unit is powered), the power button works. However, sometimes, one of the Genelecs (the left one, the second in the chain) activates and goes to sleep via ISS 10min later again.

I strongly dislike this new behaviour. To clarify, why this is so important to me: my GML unit is connected to a Mac mini home server, the server hosts all music and has no screen attached. Therefore it is remotely controlled by several devices both Mac OS and iOS. As such, there is no need for full screen sharing to control music - but only, if I do not have to close the GML software before powering down the speakers....

Sorry for the long post - the question in brief is, how can I get back the old behaviour to power down the speakers with GML software running.

Hi,

We will provide a firmware update which will restore the old behaviour.

After a couple of weeks using the updated firmware: works fine, the power button works the way, it did before and the problem of one speaker going online for no visible reason is gone too.

I'd also like an option of speakers going to sleep with GLM connected.

Background:

Video Production environment.

Sometimes computers are rendering for half a day or uploading large amounts of data without user interaction.
