ISS power on/off at different times and volumes

Is there a timer of some kind set to exactly an hour when the speakers are supposed to shut down? In that case, I think there is something odd going on with my speakers. They shut down properly, but it does not take an hour (30-40mins). The thing that concerns me most is that when they are a sleep and I put music through them, one of the speakers powers up, just before the music begins playing. While the other one seems to need a few more seconds. With the volume adjusted very low (2-4 of 100) one of the speakers do not power up, I'll have to turn up the volume a few notches for it to go on (5-10 of 100).

Could this be an issue with the source, or is it the speakers?

Hi,

Which speakers do you have?

Shut down time should be approximately one hour, +/- 5 minutes.

Start up difference maybe due to different signals in left and right channels. Can you test with mono pink noise in both channels to confirm?

I've got the 6010B. How do I use the speakers in mono, and should the pink noise be running all the time or just for a short while and then turn the volume to 0?

You can download pink noise signal here: http://www.genelec.com/learning-center/test-signals/

Have the speakers in stand by mode and then start the noise at normal playback level. If the both speakers turn up at the same time, they should be just fine. There is a certain threshold for signal detection and if you are playing it too quiet, the ISS circuit won't activate. Typically preamplifiers have bad channel balance at low volume settings which explains why they start up at different volume setting.
