Center speaker selection

I am attempting to setup a music 75% / movie 25% 5.1 system for a room that is 2500 (ft3). Being that music is the primary concern, I was thinking that the 8040 might be a desirable choice for the front L and R speakers and use the 8030 for the rears. What are my options for the center speaker? The very undesirable size (for me) plus the added cost of using the 8040 for a center speaker seams over kill. The system will have a 7060B or 7070A sub. My questions are: 1) I can I get away with a 8030 center if I use the 8040 for the fronts? and 2) would keeping all the speakers the same and use five of the 8030 speakers reduce the sound quality all that much for my intended use? Thanks

Hi,

1) Center channel is equally important with left and right front channels when it comes to movie playback, which means that optimally all three speakers are identical. But if the space and budget are a limit, it is possible to use one model size smaller speaker without noticeable degradation in audio quality. Same applies to rear channel speakers.

2) Unfortunately it is impossible for me to say if the difference between 8040 and 8030 is large or small for you. You will need to listen and decide yourself.

Thanks for the feedback.

Any thoughts on just using 5 of the 8030 for my room size and sub choices?
One final question, is there any merit in using two smaller center channel speakers positioned horizontally? If so what two speakers might be suggested to work with a 8040 left and right speaker?

Thank you.

Have you looked at our subwoofer and system selection guides already? http://www.genelec.fi/tuotetuki/speaker ... selection/

Absolutely no. You shouldn't ever use two speakers for reproducing same channel as it will cause severe comb filtering effect.
