Using 7050B with another loudspeekers

Hello!

maybe this is commonly asked question but

I have a pair of neumanns Kh120 A and just bought the Genelec 7050B

i thought it was like any other sub and u could use it with the loudspeakers

now the manual says u can ONLY use the sub with genelecs due to the bass roll of switch

of coarse i can't change the loudspeakers now so using the neumanns is what it needs to be

the neumanns don't have a bas roll off switch but they do have frequency adjustments so is it possible to use the sub with them or not?

thanks!

Hi,

Of course you can use them together but the performance won't be ideal due to missing high pass filter. There will be a large boost between ~50 - 85 Hz because the frequency range of speakers and subwoofer will be overlapping there. I wouldn't recommend using this combination.

but and so..what is happening is the sound card sense the entire signal to the sub ? the sub is "reproducing " the entire spectrum as well as the satellites?

when i tun off the satellites i hear only bass from the sub

Yes, it's called bass management. The whole signal is first fed to the subwoofer which then routes it to the speakers. Crossover is at 85 Hz which means frequencies below are reproduced by the sub, and above reproduced by the speakers. The 7050B model works only with 1029, 2029, 8020 and 8030 models which have a 85 Hz bass roll-off option. Starting from 7060B model, the crossover is built inside the subwoofer which allows them to be used with all Genelec speaker models.
