Genelec's ISS loud noise when turned on

Padawan Posts: 60 Join Date: 9/7/09 Recent Posts
I have my 6010B's directly fed from my televisions RCA outputs and I usually hit the on/off switch on the TV (no standby) but leave my 6010B's at standby mode. But when I turn my TV on the speakers causes some really loud noices as they turn on (almost like a really loud click). Is this harmful for the speakers in any way?

I got the newer version (B) for the ISS and I'd really like to use them in standby, but I am really concerned about the noise they make...

Hi,

The speaker itself doesn't make much noise when turning on/off so it must come from your TV. Typically this doesn't hurt the speakers in any way because they have protective circuits against this type of failure.

Hapoy to hear it wont damage the speakers. But I have to solve this anyway. Could it help with a mains filter or external pre-amplifier?

A mains filter does not probably do anything but a device, for example preamplifier, which volume you can turn down before turning on your tv would probably do the trick and stop the noise from reaching the speakers.

A quality preamplifier would make them sound better aswell. I'll have to get one then :)
