Nearfield listening setup for home audio.

I have a 6010/5040 combo that I want to set up as a home nearfield audio system. I have stands for the 6010s & am just working out the details of room placement. I intend to start with everything well away from the walls, including my chair and the 6010s within about a meter from me. Room is approx. 3.6m x 3.4m. One very prominent nearfield guru is promoting a 90deg wide angle for satellite placement with a shorter distance from listener to the plane of the speakers. In other words, not the popular equilateral triangle setup. As I understand, 60deg is traditional recommendation. Just wondering, in a free standing (well away from walls or boundaries) what is about the maximum distance you would recommend the 6010s be placed from the listening position. Assuming a spread of between 60 & 90 degrees for the speakers. I am very much interested in maintaining a good center image. Thanks for your help.

Thanks,
kev
