Everlasting 1029A just kicked the bucket!

Hi

I've been using a pair of 1029As since the late 90s. Never hammered, always reliable. I've moved them from the UK to Dubai and just today the right one died about 10 seconds after switch on. Out of the corner of my eye I think I saw a little white flash from behind it somewhere. I suspected a loose power plug but this was secure. Trying both power and audio with its twin proved that both were working fine. No smell of burning electronics.

If I were still in the UK I wouldn't be troubling you guys, I'd just mail it off but I'm pretty new to Dubai, things tend to take a while if at all, and this little guy weighs quite a bit, so.. before I attempt to struggle through the process out here, has anyone had this kind of problem? Have a clue as to which part might have blown? Any easy fixes, internal board fuse etc, or is this a purely pro job?

Many thanks

I would suspect either the mains fuse or power transformer. What is the voltage in Dubai??? Most likely fuse if you saw a flash.

The mains fuse is on the amp board so you'd need to open the speaker up to check. Make sure it has been unplugged from the wall at least 10 minutes before you open it up.

Thanks Steve, on board fuse sounds likely. Voltage here is same as UK and usually pretty stable and reliable. I'll work on it!

Thinking that you saw a flash, probably means that the transformer has failed, but fit a fuse and cross your fingers.
