Signal level attenuation for F Two + 8030A

Hi

I have the following problem: My pre-amplifier's volume knob is not very well suited for Genelec's preferred input signal levels. With 8030As I reduced the main level from the loudspeakers' front panel in order to get somehow reasonable volume tuning range from the pre-amp. Now with the F Two in between, I have trouble setting the volume levels good between the sub & main speakers. F Two is at its minimum and the 8030As are set to 12 o'clock, but this starts to be already bad for the volume knob of the pre-amp, i.e., the range between silent and full power is too small.

I'm thinking about inserting H-pad attenuators (commercial of self-made) between the pre-amp and F Two. Then it occurred to me that the F Two has also the mini plug for external volume control. I guess the wireless controller is controlling the volume level the same way, but the remote is not working for some reason out of the package so I can't do any tests yet...

Anyway, the question is as follows: Would it be better to attenuate the signal before the F Two or is the internal volume control of F Two the same in practive with reasonable audio levels? Can there be, for example, some noise issues with one of the configurations?

Thanks in advance!

I managed to swap the apparently broken remote to a new one. Problem seems to be solved with system volume tuned down, at least according to first listening tests 8-)

Also, the I did some measurements, and now the dominating room modes are at the same level as the main speakers... :? http://www.dvdplaza.fi/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=16850&d=1389256310
