8260a GLM calibration question

Hello

I have been playing with the GLM software and do not quite understand why it cannot compensate the room response à 50Hz and 80Hz. As you can see on the graph the "AutoCal optimised response" follows exactly the room response instead of applying a correction.

My room is not symmetrical, AutoCal works fine on the right channel, I mean the AutoCal apply good correction but on the left channel I am missing -10db correction.

Could you please advise on how to work around this, or tell me whether I have reached a limitation in the correction calculation (filters...).
I am not an expert in this domain. :?

Thanks in advance

Hi Frank,

Unfortunately there is no system that will EQ a cancellation, the best way to use GLM is to do an initial measurement as you have done, then move the speakers/listening position to minimise cancellations.

Do you have the speakers out from the wall, i think the 80Hz problem may be the distance from the baffle to the rear wall.

You will never get the response flat unless you have a acoustically designed room, your goal should be to minimise the severity and number of cancellations.

Hi Steve

Both speakers are about 5 to 10 cm from the rear wall (there are not parallel to the wall).
Your are right the software does not compensate a cancellation I have a pretty good curve on the right speaker with a mini drop at 180Hz and 500Hz and the result (green curve) follows this mini cancellation ! But this acceptable.

The left speaker is not in a corner, I shall work on this part of the room and check how I can minimize this cancellation effect at 80Hz. May be adding diffusors.

Thanks for the support

Have fun Frank,

you are about to experience one of the real benefits of GLM. As you start manipulating your room via treatments and position you will be able to validate each and every decision you make quickly and efficiently, don't forget to play with the height of the speakers, you might try placing them higher that you usually would, i usually try and get LF drivers at least 1 meter from the floor....
