8040a + 7070a or 7060b

Dear ladies and gentlemen, dear Ilkka,

i own 2x 8040a in a (untreated) room of the size approx. (5x 2,5 x 2,5 m = 31,25 m3) 5,45 x 3,3 x 2,15 = 38,67 m3. so its gonna be a 2.1-system. music-production style is electronic. i have the opportunity to get a second hand 7070a - at the price of a used 7060b. would the 7070a be too much for that room compared to a 7060b as an alternative? would the 7060b be better for that room? why?
in summary: i can get a 7070a for the price of a 7060b and am thinking if theres something wrong with that in my 2.1 environment.

thanks for advice.

p.s. did a search in the forum until 2009 and couldnt find advice with regard to my (small?) room and 7070, so sorry if this might have been answered already. have also read all the manuals form genelec 8040, 7060, 7070.

edit: room size actually currently is 5,45 x 3,3 x 2,15 = 38,67 m3

Hi wipmac,

I have just sold a pair of G4's and a 7070A to a friend who lives in an apartment.

The 7060, 7070, 7071 and 7073 will pretty much all do the same thing in regards to extension, it is SPL where they differ, for example if you swapped out a 7060 for a 7070, you would only hear a difference when the spl increased to a point where the 60 would start clipping. (assuming the subs using the same settings in the same location.)

I would say get the 7070A it provides you with more headroom and who knows what size room you will be in in 5 years...

thanks for the info!
its gonna be the 7070 for me. am curious to see if it is true for me that "subwoofers cause more problems when mixing than solving problems" and my mixes translate better to other systems.

kind regards!

Subwoofers can cause major problems "IF" not set up properly. Make sure you set the phase then adjust level and you will be fine, Genelec make it very easy and provide all the info you need. An SPL meter will be the minimum you need, but if you run REW (Room Eq Wizard) to measure your room your mixes will translate very well.
