Blown Tweeter on 6010a

Hi,

I recently sold a pair of 6010a's on ebay due to upgrading. They were in perfect working order when I sent them off and they were never abused. Subsequently the buyer has contacted me and told me one of the tweeters is blown. The buyer has been advised by a Genelec engineer in London (Chris Heap?) that this could not have happened in transit. Does any one know of any way a tweeter can blow, perhaps during set-up?

many thanks,
Rob.

Hi Rob,

A tweeter is an electromechanical device so there are many possible ways how it can be damaged. It is possible that it could have been damaged during transport due to mechanical vibrations, but then again it is also possible that it was damaged later on during first set-up. Seeing and opening up the speaker might give one some clues about the possible failure mechanism, but it might be impossible to say it for certain.
