Influence of cigarette smoke on monitors

hey everybody,

i have recently acquired a pair of 8050s on ebay, where the seller had (obviously intentionally) not declared that those came from a smoker studio.

now my question is, since the monitors strongly reek of cigarette smoke, if the smoking has deterioriating effects on the woofers and tweeters. a layer of tar could eventually build up on the speakers themselves, would this degrade sound quality?

Hello,

Unfortunately we do not have experience with cigarette smoke deteriorating the performance of the speaker. Obviously there could be some kind of effect but there are so many variables it's difficult to start guessing. If you are worried about the performance of the speakers, you could send them to our factory for a full check up. Where are you located at?

hello ilkka,

i'm located in germany.

so far i couldn't find any audible deterioriating effects on the speakers, they sound just as pristine as they were meant to be.

i merely asked because the seller claimed the monitors were in "as new" condition, which is obviously not true if there was a buildup of tar on the speaker membranes, hence this is more relevant for legal concerns - i'm not gonna let that liar slip away.

Well I also don't think performance of the speakers will get affected. but the smell of smoke might be the one that's irritating you.
