Unreliable remote control (5051A)

I bought a 5051A subwoofer only a month ago and I've been very happy with the purchase. Unfortunately the remote control delivered with the subwoofer does not seem share the same quality as the device itself: one cannot really know whether pressing the buttons do anything or not. Some kind of feedback from the device is desperately needed (especially when there are no leds in sight).

Pressing power button usually mutes the sound after pressing it few times, but volume control is next to useless: pressing (long-press or multiple presses) on the volume buttons do not seem to anything on the volume. I've managed to do it in few times, but usually end up adjusting the volume from the source. Today it managed to drop the volume on minimum and did not restore the levels until the subwoofer was switched off and on.

Have you experienced the same? Could the device(s) be faulty?

In addition, the subwoofer seems to stuck at low volume level quite often nowadays :( I'm not yet sure about the sequence: possibly when signal drops off and so does subwoofer (after a while). Only way to restore the volume is to switch device off and on again.

Could this be related or another issue? Switching device off and on from remote control does restore the volume level correctly. And volume buttons... no effect whatsoever.

Hi,

It is possible that the volume control circuit inside the subwoofer is faulty. Since your subwoofer is still under warranty, you should send it for service. Please contact our service engineer markku.mykkanen (at) genelec.com for further information.

Thank you!

Just realized I haven't replied/closed this topic yet:

- The issue with volume stuck was due the link-in switch being enabled (still don't know when that happened)
- Remote control still works a bit poorly, but I've noticed pressing the buttons close to floor level and (very) near subwoofer helps

Anyway, thanks for the Genelec support helping with the issue.

Just to cross-post to another thread: Issue was finally resolved with wired volume control, with reasonable low extra investment: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1386&p=4668#p4668
