6010A + 5040A vs. 8020B (Also: 5051A & 5050A?) - Forum

6010A & 5040A will give you much wider bandwidth, meaning you will hear all frequencies between ~35 Hz and 20 kHz. With 8020B the low end will be much more limited so you will hear less bass. The midrange of the 8020B will be little bit more accurate than with 6010A. What kind of setup do you have on mind? Is it for computer, tv, home theatre or?

5050A and 5051A belong to our home theatre range subwoofers so they are listed on the custom install site.

Also, fwiw, I'm more interesting in something that "sounds fun" rather than "clinical," so to speak.

Digital piano requires more dynamic headroom than low end. Therefore I would recommend 8020B or even 8030A if you need to play loud and/or fill a large space.

I don't actually need to play loud, nor fill a large space.

This is for home use/practice/enjoyment -- the room itself is roughly 9' (h) x 12' (w) x 22' (l) -- but I won't generally need to "fill the room" -- rather, the main objective is that it should sound enjoyable when sitting there playing. There may be some occasions in which it would be nice to fill out the room, but that's not the main goal.

Because digital piano requires more midrange than low end. A subwoofer does not bring that much help there.

"How big" is a very difficult question. How do you quantify audio quality or difference? For some people same difference may be barely noticeable while for some people enough to justify a larger speaker. It's always best to listen to yourself.

To be honest, I missed that post. I know audio is highly individual. Unfortunately where I live there is no retailer left selling Genelec. Used to have one though, but I never demoed the 8020's, just the 8030 and 6010 with 5040. I bought the 8030's so I know how well they sound compared to my 6010's. I just want something closer to the 8030's without a huge difference in physical size. Perhaps I should just grab a pair and hope they're close enough

I also wonder why is the Genelec 5050a not listed anywhere on Genelecs website?

I'm planning to buy the 5050a, will it work good with the 8030:s or do you recommend some other subwoofer for this setup?

Hi,

5050A is already a discontinued model, but some dealers may still have stock. It will work well with the 8020 or 8030. 7050B and F Two offer similar performance from our current line up.

No, 5050A has a bass management function so it will handle the roll-off. Just remember to route the signal through the subwoofer's inputs/outputs to the speakers.
