6010A + 5040A vs. 8020B (Also: 5051A & 5050A?)
Youngling Posts: 4 Join Date: 7/3/12 Recent PostsJust wondering how you'd compare a pair of 6010A's with a 5040A vs. a pair of 8020B (since the price out about the same).
Also, is there a reason the 5051A and 5050A aren't on the main Genelec site?
Thanks!

Yoda Posts: 2564 Join Date: 3/23/09 Recent Posts6010A & 5040A will give you much wider bandwidth, meaning you will hear all frequencies between ~35 Hz and 20 kHz. With 8020B the low end will be much more limited so you will hear less bass. The midrange of the 8020B will be little bit more accurate than with 6010A. What kind of setup do you have on mind? Is it for computer, tv, home theatre or?
5050A and 5051A belong to our home theatre range subwoofers so they are listed on the custom install site.

Hi, thanks -- it's for a digital stage piano.
Also, fwiw, I'm more interesting in something that "sounds fun" rather than "clinical," so to speak.
What do you advise? Thanks again...

Re: 6010A + 5040A vs. 8020B (Also: 5051A & 5050A?)
Youngling Posts: 4 Join Date: 7/3/12 Recent PostsDigital piano requires more dynamic headroom than low end. Therefore I would recommend 8020B or even 8030A if you need to play loud and/or fill a large space.
Thank you.
I don't actually need to play loud, nor fill a large space.
This is for home use/practice/enjoyment -- the room itself is roughly 9' (h) x 12' (w) x 22' (l) -- but I won't generally need to "fill the room" -- rather, the main objective is that it should sound enjoyable when sitting there playing. There may be some occasions in which it would be nice to fill out the room, but that's not the main goal.
Does that impact your advice? Thanks again...

Re: 6010A + 5040A vs. 8020B (Also: 5051A & 5050A?)
Youngling Posts: 4 Join Date: 7/3/12 Recent PostsI would still advice getting 8020B.
Thank you, just to be sure I'm 100% following you -- you would recommend a pair of 8020B's (*without a subwoofer*) rather than a pair of 6010A's with the 5040A subwoofer -- is that all correct?

Yoda Posts: 2564 Join Date: 3/23/09 Recent PostsSorry for bringing up an old thread but I am looking for benefits for upgrading my 6010's to G Two's. Can I ask why you prefer the 8020 without sub rather than 6010 with sub?
How big is the difference between the speakers when it comes to pure audio?
Because digital piano requires more midrange than low end. A subwoofer does not bring that much help there.
"How big" is a very difficult question. How do you quantify audio quality or difference? For some people same difference may be barely noticeable while for some people enough to justify a larger speaker. It's always best to listen to yourself.

Padawan Posts: 60 Join Date: 9/7/09 Recent PostsOur products line up pretty linearly in both size and audio quality. So 8020 is right in between the 6010 and 8030. If you want 8030 sound, you need to get 8030, there is no way around it.
But the 8020 is closer to the 8030 than the 6010, so I can just get the 8020 and be happy. Is the 5040 enough to work well with the 8020?
Which would you prefer Ilkka 6010 with 5040 or 8020 (G Two) with 5040?

5040 works well with the 8020 or G Two. With 8020 you just need to attenuate the speakers by 10 dB due to different input sensitivity.
Obviously I would choose the larger speaker with the subwoofer.

Yoda Posts: 2564 Join Date: 3/23/09 Recent Posts5050A is already a discontinued model, but some dealers may still have stock. It will work well with the 8020 or 8030. 7050B and F Two offer similar performance from our current line up.

No, 5050A has a bass management function so it will handle the roll-off. Just remember to route the signal through the subwoofer's inputs/outputs to the speakers.
