8250A digital problems
Youngling Posts: 4 Join Date: 4/21/11 Recent PostsMy setup:
RME Fireface 800. Output from ADAT2 goes to HOSA Model ODL-312. From Hosa the signal goes to first Genelec (AES input).
From this first Genelec (digital through) the signal goes to the input (AES) of the second Genelec.
When I power on these Genelecs, both are first showing green leds.
When I start using GLM system, the first Genelec goes to orange led right away. The system only sees one monitor connected despite that I have 2 monitores connected. While using GLM, the test sound comes out only from the first Genelec. And this same monitor was showing orange led when I started GLM. I onöy managed to get this test sound out by using manual cabling wizard and there I was able to get a sound out (but only only from the first monitor)
Weird..does anyone have a clue that where the problem is...?

Yoda Posts: 2564 Join Date: 3/23/09 Recent PostsThe yellow led means that the speaker is not in a group. You should perform rapid cabling wizard and choose "stereo pair (digital single wire)". This is the working setup for your system. If there is something wrong with the cables, you should see a blinking red led if the speaker is not receiving correct digital signal.
If this happens, try changing the routing of the cables so that the first cable goes to the other speaker than before.
Let me know how it goes.

Hi,

Re: 8250A digital problems
Youngling Posts: 5 Join Date: 4/14/14 Recent PostsI purchased brand new 8250A for my Home Studio and connected it today and one of the Speaker Right Keeps loosing the connection to GLM and the GLM Software shows only one. I have even tried with multiple cables and both Analog and Digital Inputs. The Right Speaker keeps blinking Red and Amber all of a sudden and I am really upset that these brand new speakers are already encountering problems. I have a Roland DS5 which is 6 Year old and till date never had even a single problem.
Here is the video captured explaining the current situation.

Re: 8250A digital problems
Yoda Posts: 2564 Join Date: 3/23/09 Recent PostsThat sounds like a network connection problem between the GLM network adapter and the speaker. Have you tried it with different network cables and different connectors (there are two network connectors on each speaker). If you route the network differently (first to left or right speaker), is it still always the right speaker that keeps loosing the connection.
*edit* I heard that you have already been in contact with our customer service who have been able to conclude that there is a problem which needs professional service.

Youngling Posts: 5 Join Date: 4/14/14 Recent PostsThanks for your reply. I have contacted Genelec Support and they have been helping me. I am really upset that these high value investment is having problems even before using it. I have attached the Connectivity Details. The problem persists when the GLM Network Connection or the AES Digital Inputs are connected to the 8250A. You will see the Speaker immediately resetting itself continuously and flapping. I have tried either ways by swapping cables and direction but nothing helps. I also have captured the Video for your kind reference.

Looks like a hardware fault to me which I am not happy about at all.

I would like to know the plan of action from Genelec to replace the complete Kit including the 8250A X 2 Speakers and the GLM Module since I would not want to spend time troubleshooting after investing so much into these. My Roland DS5s have been with me for 6 Years without a problem and I would not expect the Genelecs to have failed considering their reputation.
