I thought it would be worthwhile dedicating a tread to discuss the upcoming 5051A Subwoofer. Available in the UK now but not the US as yet.

Copied below is the info on it thus far from the Genelec site and source link.

Genelec 5051A Active Subwoofer
The new Genelec 5051A is an extremely compact active subwoofer designed to complement up to five main speakers with accurate and dynamic bass response reaching down to 27 Hz. Matched perfectly with the Genelec 8000 Series, the 5051A conveniently features a wireless remote volume control allowing adjustment of the entire sound system. The product also has versatile acoustic controls for perfect room integration.

Designed by Genelec’s R&D team in co-operation with internationally acclaimed Finnish designer Harri Koskinen, the 5051A subwoofer features an unobtrusive, modern appearance.

The 5051A features a magnetically shielded downward firing 8” bass driver attached to a die-cast aluminium base plate. The base plate also serves as the chassis for the 150 Watt D-class amplifier and crossover filter circuitry. The 5051A packs a respectable punch of 102 dB maximum sound pressure level.

The built-in crossover unit on the 5051A features six RCA input connectors for five main channels and one LFE channel and five RCA output connectors for the main loudspeakers. For stereo use this subwoofer also offers the possibility of connecting the main channels with balanced XLR inputs and outputs. The main channels have a fixed high pass filter to work with Genelec 8000 Series loudspeakers. The different connectivity options provide a convenient connection to portable audio players, computers or home theater systems through their line-level outputs. Adjustable input sensitivity in combination with adjustable crossover phase allows a seamless integration between the subwoofer and the selected main loudspeakers – Genelec 6010A, 8020B or 8030A.

The 5051A is also equipped with a very convenient automatic signal sensing function that switches the subwoofer to a power saving stand-by mode if no signal is present in the audio input for approximately one hour. The stand-by power consumption is less than 0,5W. The subwoofer resumes playback automatically when it detects an audio signal being fed into any of the input connectors.

5040A is suggested for 6010A and 8020B, so for 8030A you will definitely need 5051A. It does also have system volume control (wireless!) and advanced room response controls (bass roll-off and phase). It also has stereo XLR connections for best possible audio quality.

I'm interested to know more about this 5051A wireless remote and haven't seen any photos of it. Can it effectively serve as a monitor controller in a DAW setup with features like; Dim, Mute, Sum to Mono?

I'm currently trying to decide on a DAC for mastering to interface my mac based DAW with my 8030A's and have narrowed it down to either a Benchmark DAC1 or an Apogee Duet2. I like the monitor control features offered in the Duet2 but suspect the sound quality is better with the DAC 1. Since I'm planning on adding a 5051A if it's remote serves as a monitor controller then the monitor controls offered in the Duet2 would be redundant making the decision between the two easier.

Thanks Ilkka, so the photo/mockup looks like it is an RF based remote.

Do you get mute by tapping the power button briefly instead of holding it down, or by pushing the (-) and (+) buttons simultaneously?
