Subwoofer advice for 8030a setup

Youngling Posts: 6 Join Date: 3/20/12 Recent Posts
Hi all

First post here so be gentle :-)

Im converting part of my garage into a small acoustically treated control room with built in bass traps etc. The work space is just over 2.5sqm and the 8030a's are perfect for the room but I'd like to pair them up with a suitable subwoofer.

After reading numerous threads here, the first choice seems to be the 5040a but with some tweaking (volume level adjustment and bass roll off). Given the size of the room and that it will properly treated, would the 5040a still be the best choice or should I consider the new 5051?

I'll be running the speakers from a Yamaha 01v96 and my sound card is the fireface 800.

Any suggestions would be most welcome and of course if any other info is required please let me know.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post ;)

Hello GM,

5040A is suggested for 6010A and 8020B, so for 8030A you will definitely need 5051A. It does also have system volume control (wireless!) and advanced room response controls (bass roll-off and phase). It also has stereo XLR connections for best possible audio quality.

Hi Ikka,

This is good news. I have a small project studio (2m x 3m) with a pair of 8030A and thought the 7050B might be too much bass! 5051A looks like a better match. I notice these are listed only on the Home Theatre site. Is the 5051A of the same quality for music production as the 8030A?

Do you have any pricing/availability information?

Thanks,

Phillip

Hello Ilkka,
I'm not seeing the 5051 available anywhere in the US in a few google searches I've done. Is it available here yet, for example at Sweetwater ? And will you make it in silver color as well ? I'm getting a pair of the silver 8030As and would love a matching colored sub.
Thanks very much,
JHD

I'm awaiting news of the US release, final specs and pricing info of the 5051a sub too. So far it looks like a great option to pair with 8030A's and the wireless remote is a bonus feature.

Hi John,

The 5051A will be available in black and white colour, not silver. We have been discontinuing the silver colour for some other models too because people seem not to like it so much.

Would the 7050B fit to your budget?

Hi,

I checked it out and i'm tempted but it's still more then I can spare currently. I'll check the 2nd hand Market in case there's a bargain to be had.

Thanks
