Surround Sound Monitoring Combination

Hi all,

I am putting together a Genelec system for 5.1 post production monitoring for Film/TV.

Does the following monitor combination sound acceptable:

LCR monitors: 1030a's
LS/RS monitors: 1029a's
Subwoofer/LFE: 7060a

Please let me know your thoughts.

Hello Dave,

Sounds really good to me! Good maximum SPL capability match between all speakers and subwoofer.

Hi Ilkka,

Thanks for your response, it is only the subwoofer that I need to purchase now.

As there is quite a price difference between subs, Do I really need the 7060 for this set up? Will the 7050 do as good a job? Or indeed a smaller subwoofer than this? What would be the minimum size you would recommend.

The main function of the set up will be film and TV monitoring with occasional music jobs.

Regards,
Dave

Hi Dave,

The recommended subwoofer for 1030A based surround system is 7070A. So unfortunately the 7050B will not work, the maximum SPL of the subwoofer will limit the total system volume too early. 7060B is the minimum I would recommend for your setup.

I am also setting up a surround system for live show mixing. I have 3 1031a 's as L,C,R. is ok to buy 2 1029's for LS,RS and then which sub should I get? Are either the 7050 or 1091a 's ok, or they are too small? which sub would be the minimum? thanks, Brian

Hi,

1029's for surrounds is ok, but subwoofer needs to be much bigger. Our recommendation for 1031A based surround system is 7071A or 2x 7070A. Of course you can get away with for example one 7070A, but then the subwoofer will be the limiting factor when it comes to total system maximum SPL capability.

What about 3 x 8240a LCR and 2 x 8130a LS/RS and 7260a?

Hi,

It will of course work but our recommendation for an 8240A based system is either 7270A or 2x 7260A.
