8040A connection to a consumer soundcard with 3.5mm output?

Hi,

I was planning to purchase the 8040A and connect it to my computers soundcard. However, my soundcard only has 3.5mm output, i plan to use some adaptors to connected it to the balanced XLR input of the 8040A (i.e. unbalanced to balanced). My question is whether or not this alters the sonic characteristics of the genelecs, and/or causes any kind of phase shifts.

I know traditionally the explanation has been that XLR cables provide the advantage of being shielded against noise, which is a non-issue in my situation, but I have always wondered whether it actually changes the sound?

Thanks for your time.

Don't worry about it. If noise is not a problem now, it won't be by adding the adapters.

Just make sure you have the adapters correctly wired. Genelec has the info in their manuals (and may even have them as accessories - I've not checked.)

There will be no audible sound quality effects from a short adapter in this scenario.
