Genelec 6010A and Imac 27?

Im about to purchase the imac and am a complete novice to a mac plus the Genelec speakers im planning on buying a pair. Simple if dumb question. Do you just connect the speakers directly into a port on the mac and hey presto thats that or do i need something else? Also i doubt if i can afford a subwoofer just yet, so how do these speakers perform by themselves in a fairly small room?
Thanks for any feedback.

Hello,

I am not familiar with the Imac 27 but I'm quite sure it has a line level speaker/headphone output. You can connect the speakers directly to this (usually 3,5mm jack) connector.

The second question is harder because it's very difficult to describe a performance of a loudspeaker with words only. Naturally they are small speakers so if you have previously used to speakers with big enclosure and 8" woofer, the bass performance especially will not please you. But usually people are extremely pleased with the performance, especially when they notice the physical size of the speaker. So, YMMV. :) And naturally you can always add the subwoofer later.
