Please Help! Volume setting 8020A and 5040A

Well hello there.

I'm new to this Forum and ended up here after searching the Internet for hours without an answer.

I purchased a 5040A today and connected everything well to my beloved 8020A's and i end up with asking myself
on which position the volume nobs in the front of the 8020A should be after turning them on.

Of course i have the volume vontrol of the subwoofer, but depending which position i choose of the
8020A nobs they are louder or more quiet.
What is the right position for this controls?
The Handbook just says "turn the volume control nob on the loudspeaker's front panel counterclockwise"
but from where to where?
I'm lost and would need some help.

Thanks in advance.

Just in case it's important - My setup is pretty easy - i have a big table with the two monitors and my subwoofer is under it.

Hi there,

The gain reduction has to be made because the 5040A (and 6010A) has 10 dB lower input gain.

1) Set the subwoofer's gain to half way (there's small mark which marks the spot).
2) Turn both speakers' gain to full (fully clockwise).
3) Turn both speakers' gain counter-clockwise until the knobs point straight up. This equals to 10 dB gain reduction.
4) Fine-tune the subwoofer's gain by listening to a known material, also check for the correct phase.

Well - thanks for the answer!
Acually i spent my day listening to some reference songs to finally come to the conclusion
that the 12 oclock position works best for me. ;-)

Finally i read the online manual of the 5040A - just in case it would be different from the
manual delivered with the subwoofer and - surprise surprise - the online manual says you should put
the volume on the 12 oclock position - my manual only says "put it counterclockwise" without
any specific position! My sub was manufactured in feb 2010 - maybe you can add this info to the manual delivered with it.

Thanks again.
