New Monitors When 1 Does'nt Work

I have a question for Genelec's costomers Service.
and for all the rest of Genelec's fans .

After i heard the 8020 in a small home studio, i dream on those little monitors (for a while now) .

I called the poblisher in my contry and made sure he has in the stock 2 brend new 8020b (not from display),it was hard to find, but evantually i found a brench that has one new pair.
i bought it. took it back north, back to the post production studio.
i was so sad to discover that one of the monitors does not turn on . my heart was broken - beside the fact that i have to travel a long way in order to change the fault monitor, due to the lack of new 8020monitors, it will take about a mounth untill a new one arrives. so the publisher offered me this - "if it's a fuse, we will fix it, if not, you can take another one from the display" (which acording to him the monitor was on only a few hours in a normal volume ) .
my question is how bad is it to use together difrent pair - with difrent "flight hours" ?

Usually what's Genelec's service Policy when there is an error with a product from day 1 ?

do you give an allternative speaker untill you can supply a new one ?

Thank You for your time,

Hi,

First of all, I'm sorry to hear that the other speaker was defective. Our policy for warranty cases is that the local distributor will service the speaker (not replace completely) for free and will return it to the customer as soon as possibly. No "loaners" are given because usually service times are very short.

It doesn't make any difference whether the other speaker has more "flight hours". In general speaker's sound quality doesn't change with time. There can be some small differences with a brand new speaker and one that has been played already, but any differences will even out after few hours of play time.

Change fuse in 8020A

Youngling Posts: 2 Join Date: 1/19/13 Recent Posts
Hi,

I just plugged in an radiator. (Its cold today) and both my 8020A died. Probably a fuse. It's getting warmer, but there's no music.

Looking on the backside of the 8020A:s there are a lot of screws to choose between. Before I start my guesswork, do some one know where the fuse is located? Some picture would be super nice.

I have been googling this issue without results (which surprises me a bit because it seems like I'm not the only one that this has happen to.)

Thanks,
/Henrik

Hi,

I did not have time to wait for the answer. I found the fuse behind the metal plate. No need to pick the whole speaker apart.

Anyway, when I was picking out the fuse from the right speaker the left came to life again. If anyone would care to explain I would appreciate that. The radiator was connected to the same wire as the monitors, and that worked fine.

Henrik

Hi Henrik,

First of all, you shouldn't open up your speakers. There is a warning sticker on the speaker which says:

"WARNING! Electric shock hazard. Do not open. Do not subject to water or moisture. No user serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified personnel."

It is really difficult to say what happened with that little background information. It seems that the fuses are ok if the other speaker came back to alive without any service. Can you try to unplug the radiator?
